New rides and attractions opening May 2017 at Disneyland

May should be dubbed Super Hero month at Disneyland with the opening a new attraction, a super hero-themed dance party and special super hero encounters. Oh, and the smaller ones get a new attraction as well. And, year, there's a half marathon as well.

Starting May 27, 2017 the super heroes descend upon California Adventure at Disneyland.
Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout!
The big attraction is Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! This is is a redress of the Tower of Terror ride which dropped guests multiple times. In this adventure guests board a gantry lift and join Rocket to breakout the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy from The Collector’s Fortress. There are six different adventures and six different rock songs which act as soundtracks.

In addition to the ride are two year-round new experiences:
  • Super Hero Encounters: For the first time Groot will be available for a meet and greet. In addition to Captain America, Spider-Man and others.
  • “Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off!”: Star-Lord fires up his old-school boom box to get the party going.

From May 27 - Sept. 10 are special Summer of Heroes events:
  • “Avengers Training Initiative”: Black Widow and Hawkeye assemble young recruits for a series of tests to see if they have what it takes to join the ranks of the Avengers.
  • Heroic Encounter: Black Widow: Black Widow arrives on the scene several times throughout the day in an armored Avengers vehicle for her heroic encounter with park guests.
  • Grab a Piece (or Bite) of the Action: Special themed merchandise, plus food and beverage items, will be available throughout Hollywood Land.
For the little one there is a new year-round show debuts on May 26:

“Disney Junior Dance Party”: Is a concert experience that invites adults and kids to dance and sing along with characters from Disney Junior TV shows “Doc McStuffins,” “Sofia the First” and “The Lion Guard.” They are joined by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse from the new series “Mickey and the Roadster Racers.”

And, let's not forget The Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend, May 11 to May 14.

The weekend races kick off with the 5K and Kids Races on May 12, followed by the 10K on May 13 and the half marathon on May 14.
