Disney World closed for Hurricane Matthew, guests hunker down

Walt Disney World closed down operations at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 as Hurricane Matthew approached Florida. The parks will remain closed Friday, Oct. 7.

All four theme parks, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom; both water parks, Disney Blizzard's Beach and Typhoon Lagoon; Disney Springs and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground are closed.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has been canceled through Oct. 7, as well as Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. Events at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and spa locations at Disney Resorts are closed through Oct. 8.

Most Disney Resort hotel restaurants will remain open. In the meantime guests were hunkering down.

Disney World has closed three previous times for hurricanes: Sept. 15, 1999, for Hurricane Floyd; Sept. 4-5, 2004, for Hurricane Frances; and Sept. 26, 2004 for Hurricane Jeanne.
