Is Disney World canceling or planning a major revamp of the Extra Magic Hours?

Is Disney planning on canceling its Extra Magic Hours at Walt Disney World, or is it just planning a major revamp of the perk?

Operating hours released to travel agents ahead of publication do not include the Extra Hour Magic hours for the month of January 2016. WDWMagic.com, which originally reported on this, said the magic hours are normally placed on the calendar.

Extra Magic Hours have been a benefit for those staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels since 2004. Some of the parks either open early or stay open later for resort guests.

During the past few years changes have taken place to the program:

In February 2011, Animal Kingdom removed nighttime Extra Magic Hours.

In the summer of 2013, the water parks ceased Extra Magic Hours.

In January 2013, the Extra Magic Hours were reduced from three to two hours.

Now this does not mean the Extra Magic Hours will go away completely. In July 2012, when Disney was making changes to the 2013 schedule, it did not list any Extra Magic Hours for January 2013.

Remember, there is a lot of speculation taking place, because there is a lot going on at the parks. Eventually, the Animal Kingdom will be staying open later due to the coming night safaris and the Rivers of Light Nighttime Spectacular. In addition, there could be major construction taking place at Hollywood Studios, which might mean no more Extra Magic Hours.

No matter what, let's hope there is not a complete elimination of the Extra Magic Hours. It is an important benefit for guests staying on property.
